EIKO Helps 3,000 Deaf Children to Undergo Treatment
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between the Execution of Imam Khomeini Order (EIKO) and SHEFA Audio Charity Center (BAKHSHESH) to help treatment of the audio problem of 3,000 deaf children for implanting cochlear.

Head of the Execution of Imam Khomeini Order (EIKO) Dr. Mohammad Mokhber was the first speaker in this ceremony who said, “some philanthropic and humanitarian activities are not profitable but they have high emotional and sensational dimensions, causing happiness and pleasure. Helping deaf children to regain their health problem is one of the issues in this regard.”

The main and pivotal activity of EIKO is to eradicate deprivation, economic empowerment, and generation of employment, he said, adding, “in this regard, 400,000 employment opportunities have thus far been generated by EIKO in the deprived and underprivileged areas of the country.”

While emphasizing on the delegation of economic activities in the country to people, he said, “Barakat Foundation, affiliated to the EIKO, has embarked on participating in 350 economic empowerment plans in the deprived and disadvantaged areas of the country and finally, these economic projects will be administered by people themselves.”

He pointed to offering more than 30 types of services by Barakat Foundation, affiliated to the EIKO, in the fields of eradication of deprivation and socioeconomic empowerment and said, “Barakat Foundation has promised to complete construction operation of 12 equipped hospitals with the total capacity of 2,500 hospital beds.”

He pointed to the social services of the Foundation and said, “the Foundation has taken important steps in the field of treatment of infertile couples in the underprivileged and deprived areas of the country.”

In this regard, the Foundation has covered 4,000 couples, based on which, 522 of whom have witnessed fertility, he added.

The Execution of Imam Khomeini Order (EIKO) has used all its potentials and capabilities to render quality services to the needy people in cooperation with the charity centers and Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs), Dr. Mokhber maintained.

He revealed the provision of 2,000 dowries at the initiative taken by the Execution of Imam Khomeini Order (EIKO) and reiterated, “the first package of these dories will be sent to the needy couples in the next week.”

Moreover, 100,000 packages of stationeries have been prepared by the EIKO on the occasion of New School Year, a total of which will be provided available to the students in the deprived and underprivileged areas of the country, Dr. Mokhber added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, head of EIKO pointed to the participation of this Headquarters in implanting cochlear for 2,000 deaf children in 2016 and 2017 and added, “the new MoU is concluded for a period of three years in a way that more than 70,000 billion rials have been allocated by EIKO for the treatment of 3,000 deaf children.”

Chairman of the board of Trustees of BAKHSHESH Charity Center Dr. Mohammad Farhadi was the next speaker who said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is among top 10 countries in the world that is able to implant cochlear operation.”

It is for about 26 years that Iran carries out cochlear operation for deaf children, he said and put the number of cochlear implantation centers in the country at 11.

Presently, more than 10,000 deaf children have benefited from the blessing of hearing, he maintained.

He put the best time for implantation of cochlear for the deaf at the ages of two and three years, he said, adding, “if hearing deficiencies are diagnosed in the early ages, costs of treatment operation will experience a considerable decline.”

He reiterated, “cochlear operation is done on more than 90 percent of children who are born deaf.”

CEO of SHEFA Hearing Charity Center Dr. Mohammad AjalLoueian was the next speaker who said, “more than 10,000 cochlear operations have thus far been conducted in the country.”

Selection of individuals, provision of relevant parts and medical services are of paramount importance after cochlear implantation, he said, adding, “once the relevant device is destroyed or damaged, the child will remain deaf from 2 to 6 months at large.”

Presently, 1,500 families are using cochlear implantation, he maintained.

In the end, he pointed to the salient and successful activities done by the Execution of Imam Khomeini Order (EIKO) in the social services sector as follows: supporting SHEFA Audio Charity Foundation financially for implanting cochlear and treatment of deaf children.
